Over the course of over 20 years in this business, I’ve often been asked what led me to choose my career as a financial advisor and the answer requires a bit of background on our family. Our family moved to Riverside when I was born because my father was one of the founders of the Riverside International Raceway. As kids my brothers and I not only had the great pleasure of having a raceway as our own personal playground but also the opportunity to work during race weekends. My father would put my friends and I to work doing odd jobs during the busy race weekends which was great fun in itself but we were also paid! With the money I earned and saved, I was able to buy the bicycle of my dreams. After that, I was often asked and needed to decide, what else did I want to do with the money? Fortunately my parents suggested I meet with a family friend who was also their financial advisor. He was so gracious with his time and made suggestions on what to do with my savings which had built up over the years. After discussing several options, we decided to buy a couple of stocks, one being a local fast food restaurant. Why? There were two reasons: one because he felt, at the time, it was a good company to invest in, and two because he knew that my friends and I would often ride our bikes to their new restaurant near our home. He showed me where to find the stock quotes in the newspaper and how to understand them. Every morning I would check the quotes in the business section of the newspaper, watching the stocks that I OWNED go up and down each day. I’m pretty sure I only knew that the Sports section existed before then. It was that simple. And from that age forward, I knew this is exactly what I wanted to do for a living. If there’s one thing I’ve told clients and friends over the years regarding investing for their children or grandchildren, it is this: use some of their savings, whether it is holiday gift money or birthday money and buy them some stocks. But not just any stocks, buy companies that the KIDS are interested in. Show them how they can monitor their investments and you will be amazed how much interest they hopefully will take in the world of finance. It’s an education that they won’t get from textbooks, and if they are anything like me, it might just create an interest to further explore the world of finance which will last a lifetime.

As far as my more formal path to a career in Financial Services, I was fortunate to receive a football scholarship to attend and graduate from the University of Southern California with a degree in Economics. To further my education, I received a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Redlands. I spent the first 10 years of my career at PaineWebber (now UBS) before deciding that a more independent practice would better serve my clients. In 2003 I founded Raincross Financial Partners and affiliated with the independent contractors division of Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. as a Registered Principal and Branch Manager. Licenses I currently hold include series 7, 9, 10, 63 & 65.

I live in Riverside with my wife Tricia and our two children Emma and Griffin. Away from the office I enjoy golf, basketball and just about any other sport and tend to spend my weekends on ball fields all around Southern California wherever our kids have games!
